Weather you’ve e-mailed, called, or filled out a form on our website, Step 1 will be to discuss your needs. One of our lovely customer service representatives will speak to you about what you’re interested in. The more information we can acquire pre-quotation, the more efficient we can be on the quotation. We will find out where you’re located, firstly. Then we will ask if you know what kind of blind you’re interested in. This gives us a head’s up what to expect. Then we will ask for the approximate number of windows you’re interested in a quotation for. WHY? Simply, it’s because it indicates how much time to allot for your quotation! A customer who wants a price on one window doesn’t require anywhere near the amount of time that the customer who needs a house full of blinds requires!
Scheduling a Blinds Quote
How we need to find a suitable time to schedule a blinds quote. Step 2 isn’t as easy as it looks! First and foremost, we take the customer’s schedule into account. We know it’s not always easy for you to be home to meet with us! It’s also not easy scheduling all of our customers. We have customers in most suburbs of Joburg and we try to synchronise them by area to save us from criss-crossing endlessly around the city!

The Blinds Quote
Our representatives take pride in arriving on time. Should we be running late (more than a couple of minutes), we try to contact you from the road to let you know. We endeavour to be on time, always! Your time is precious, and we recognise that. Once we arrive at your location, we will unload all of our samples and quotation materials. Then we will let you show us around. We like to get a sense of your space and the windows before we begin measuring. Once we’re settled, we will begin measurements while you look at samples. We will give you an idea of what to look at based on your style, needs, and budget. Don’t worry about feeling overwhelmed, we will help you narrow down what you need.
Measuring Nooks And Crannies
Measurements can be quick, or not so quick. If we are measuring on a building site or an entire house, rough measurements are enough to get you a pretty accurate price. Windows with “cut-outs”, or skirting boards might take substantially longer to measure. To fit a Venetian Blind in these spaces, we need more measurements than usual to ensure a tight fit! Depending on how much stuff is in the way of the window can also determine how long it takes us to measure! We try to be as minimally invasive to your space as necessary.
Once we have the measurements, there’s a lot to discuss. We will begin pricing the blinds for you. Other things we will probably discuss are:
- Which side you’d like the controls to sit on
- Will the blinds be Top Fix or Face Fix
- Any obstructions that will affect your blinds
- Chains for roller blinds
- Tiling or other possible drilling hazards
- Bathroom complications
Most often, we will be able to provide you with a blinds quote on the spot. We don’t price motorized blinds on site as we need time to compare pricing and be sure we’ve included all the necessary parts. If we are in a hurry or if the quotation ran later than we expected, we will ask to e-mail you a quotation. Usually we are able to provide the quotation same-day. We know our customers are eager for a price on their choices and we always try to get them to you as soon as possible!
Once the blinds quote is accepted by you, our customer, we require a 75% deposit. We know this sounds like a lot, but company policy is strict. We ask that you send POP of the deposit through to us and we will gladly place your order based on POP. The remaining 25% is due upon installation of the blinds. That’s your assurance we will do a great job of installing your blinds! We tell all of our customers that the ordering process takes AROUND two weeks. This can mean 1 1/2 weeks, or it can mean closer to 3 weeks. It all depends on how busy our manufacturers are and which manufacturer we order from. We don’t contact customers to install until we have the blinds physically in our possession. This decreases unnecessary disappointment when the blinds don’t come when expected.
Installation can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour per blind. It depends on the type of blind and the difficulty of installation. For instance, Face Fix Rollers take much longer to install than Venetian Blinds. Our superb team of highly experienced installers will tidy after themselves after drilling and wipe any hand prints off of the walls. If there are any issues you need to know about, our installers will be in touch with the customer service representatives. They will then be sure to try to contact you to keep you in the loop of what’s happening with the installation.
Sometimes, we will need to come back for adjustments. Many issues can arise on site. Here are some we’ve had:
- The plastering is weak around the lintel and it’s difficult to get the screws to hold
- Lintels are not present or built correctly (thank you, builders) and so the screws won’t hold at ALL
- The customer installs an air conditioning unit that is now in the way of where the blinds are meant to be
- The customer was mistaken about being ready for installation
- The power goes out and our handheld drill is not sufficient to drill through tiles
- The manufacturer sent the wrong brackets and we don’t have enough spares to suffice
- Multiple blinds sharing a window aren’t lining up straight (mostly pertains to Roller Blinds) and adjustments can take time
The Decor Connection prides ourself in not finishing a job until we are satisfied it is 100%. If it means coming back to finish another day, we’d rather take our time and do it right! Even if it means it takes a bit longer. We try to ensure we have enough time for all eventualities but it doesn’t always happen that way.
